Who is the CCTV Operator course for?
The CCTV Operator Course is for anyone wishing to be employed as a CCTV operator.
The Security Industry Authority (SIA) recognises that it is important for all CCTV (Public Space Surveillance) operators to have formal as a CCTV Operator in a structured programme of training
Under the Private Security Industry Act 2001, all CCTV operators must hold a licence to practise
issued by the Security Industry Authority (SIA). Successful completion of this course enables a CCTV
operative to meet one of the requirements to apply for their licence.
Successful completion of the CCTV Operator Course will enable candidates to apply for a SIA licence which will enable them to work within the CCTV (Public Space Surveillance) industry.

Although no formal qualifications are required for the CCTV Operator Course, individuals must have the ability to read and write at literacy rate of Level 2 or above.
The minimum age for access to the qualification is 16 years, however the minimum age for an SIA licence is
18 years. 16 and 17-year-olds holding this qualification will not be permitted by SIA to apply for a licence.
The qualification would enable any learner to apply for an SIA licence for CCTV.
The Level 2 Award for Working as a CCTV Operator is the entry level qualification for anyone aspiring to work in the private security industry as a CCTV PSS (public space surveillance) operative.
Many security organisations are looking for qualified CCTV operators to work for them.
