What are functional skills maths and English?
Functional Skills qualifications are designed to help learners to develop confidence and fluency in Maths and English.
They give learners practical skills to work in almost any field in everyday life and to help them function more confidently and independently.
Is functional skills the same as GCSE?
Level 1 Functional Skills are equivalent to a GCSE Grade E-D, and Level 2 Functional Skills are equivalent to GCSE Grade C-A.
Why are functional skills important?
Having a good knowledge of maths and English are two of the most important skills a person can have. Employers value practical maths and English skills. They value Functional Skills for their practical approach to problem solving and for their flexible assessment.
Do functional skills expire?
Functional Skill qualifications are acceptable regardless of when the qualification was achieved. They have no expiry and the 5 year rule does not apply.

Non required however you will complete an initial assessment as part of the enrolment and registration process to determine the level that is best for you.

Notebooks, ruler, pens, and pencils. *Please Note: PPE will be required for offsite training: Orange Hi Vis Vest, Trousers, Helmet, and Steel Toe Cap Boots
Certification and accreditation details
- National Award or Certificate in English or Maths (Entry level – Level 2)
- Higher levels of Maths and English
- Higher Education
Maths and English are required as a minimum qualification for many jobs and careers.
