New English language requirement
Transport for London (TfL) has announced that all new applicants, and existing private hire drivers applying to renew their licence for the first time since the introduction of this new requirement, must now meet the equivalent of a B1 English language requirement.
Secure English Language Tests (SELTs) assess English Language ability and are taken under specific secure conditions. Trinity SELTs are approved by UKVI, part of the Home Office, for Leave to Remain, British Citizenship (Naturalisation) and Tier 1, 2 and 4 visa categories where evidence of English language ability is a requirement.
Please note that Government concessions or reductions do not apply to this course ALL APPLICANTS must pay the FULL FEE SHOWN. However, payment by instalments may be agreed.

What is a Secure English Language Test (SELT)?
A Secure English Language Test (SELT) is a test taken in a secure environment by people who are required to show their English language ability. Trinity SELTs are approved by UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) and Trinity’s ISE I (B1) SELT is approved by Transport for London (TfL) for new and renewal licence applications for private hire drivers.
Trinity has 3 SELT centres in London with regular ISE I (B1) SELTs Approved by UKVI Trinity SELT qualifications are also approved by UKVI for British Citizenship, Settlement and visa applications.
Who is this course for?
This course is for Private Hire Drivers and Taxi Drivers. An English language requirement applies to all applications for private hire drivers licences received by Transport for London on, or after, October 2016. This includes applications for both renewal and new licences.
This course also is for non-EEA nationals will need to pass a Secure English Language Test (SELT) in speaking and listening at level A2 after two-and-a-half years in the UK in order to qualify for further leave to remain on the five-year partner or parent route to settlement.
What qualifications or experience do I need?
To enrol on the course you should be able to understand simple questions and instructions, express your opinion about likes and dislikes and talk about your job and where you live.
What is the course duration?
The course is offered as an 8-week course, however, some students may be able to complete and take their exams earlier if they are ready.

The course focuses on reading, writing, listening, speaking and exam preparation skills.

You will need to do an assessment test before you start the course, you will need to bring requested identification and proof of address documents to enable us to register you for the exam.
