Advice for students and potential students

Information and eligibility guidance for students and potential students who may be funded by the SFA to undertake further education.

The government may contribute towards the costs of your learning through the Skills Funding Agency if:

  • you are 19 or older when you start your course or training, or
  • you want to undertake an Apprenticeship or Traineeship, or
  • you are a parent on a family learning programme

This is a two stage process that involves checking you meet certain eligibility requirements, before determining the level of funding available. You will need to check that the college or training provider you want to study at is funded by the Skills Funding Agency (SFA).

24+ Advance Learning Loans

These loans help learners aged 24 and over, studying at Level 3 and Level 4, to pay the fees charged by approved colleges and training organisations in England.

It’s easy to apply, household income isn’t taken into account and there’s no credit check. Learners won’t have to pay anything back until their income is over £21,000 a year.

Applications are now open for courses starting from August 2014. To apply a learner will need a Learning and Funding Information letter; this will be issued by their learning provider. Learners should apply as early as possible, and can change details of their application later if they need to.
